The Vampire Phenomenon: Do you get it?

This morning I woke up and logged onto Twitter to find that yes, in fact, Bethenny Frankel and I are kindred spirits and are destined to be best friends. She tweeted this:

Can every single film& tv show not be about vampires?stop the madness!something is cool until it isn't. r any of them good? R u over it too?

Ok so I SWEAR I had already planned a post this morning on this very topic. Even though I'm only one of her 81,155 followers on Twitter, and she has no earthly idea who I am—yet—I decided to respond:

Over it! I saw Vamp Diaries once and it was like a bad soap opera. I'll see New Moon solely for Edward Cullen, but that's it! :)

So there you have it. I just can't get down with all this vampire shit. I gave Vampire Diaries a chance, but it was just too painful, so I've stopped trying. I did like Twilight—mainly because I'm a sucker for intense love stories and Edward Cullen is so so hot—but that's as far as I go. I'll see New Moon when it comes out in a few weeks and probably Eclipse too, but I won't start following every new vampire show on TV. It's just not something I can sink my teeth into. (Bad pun intended).

However, Federica does not share my sentiments. She loooves True Blood. So when Erik (Alexander Skarsgard) from the show came into her office to try on some Cavalli suits, she about died. Her boss even said to him, "Oh Federica is such a cute little fan. She has your picture on her desk!" Even though Fed was beyond embarrassed, she said he just laughed it off and was really cool and down-to-earth. She also said he was just as hot in person, which is always a good thing, because there is nothing worse than being let down by an idol/someone you want to make out with. I don't know, maybe I should give True Blood a fair shot.

What about you guys: Are you down with this vampire phenomenon that's happening everywhere you turn? Who's your favorite Twilight actor? (I must admit, I am pretty psyched to see a shirtless Taylor Lautner in New Moon!)

  1. True blood all the way. I am insanely jealous of your friend for meeting Erik :)

I think I am into Twilight solely for the "takes me back to high school" sentiment. It seriously makes me feel 16 again and I like it. I know, I'm a dork but I've been to a Twilight themed pottery class and will make an appearance at the New Moon mall tour when it stops at the mall a scant 10 minutes from my apt!

  2. I'm totally with you! The vampire trend hasn't appealed to me in the slightest and I'm ready for it to be over!

  3. not really into the vampires. i read twilight just beacuse....but i didn't get into it and i didn't go see the movie.

  4. Glad I'm not the only one, Becky!

So LIS, should I give True Blood a shot? Is it better than Vampire Diaries? Good luck fighting off the crazed teenagers at the New Moon mall tour! Let me know how it goes and squeeze Tay's bicep for me ;)

  5. That's probably smart, Traynharder23, everyone says the books are better. If you haven't hopped on the vampire bandwagon by now, it's probably not the time to start!

  6. True Blood is terrible (accents are not Louisiana, rather fake mountain trash, it is basically soft core porn, and the plots are redonk) - and I can't stop watching it! Erik is THE BEST character on the show. He is the 1000 year old hottness...I would let him bite me anytime. And it cracks me up that he was in Zoolander back in the day. And, if Twilight gets teenagers to read, awesome (and by teenagers I mean late-20s lawyers who want to veg out).

But enough is enough. Let's pick a new supernatural being to exploit folks...

  7. hahah yeah, i htink i had a bloggin meltdown sunday so i didn't blog on monday.

re: sleep. i think i get around 6, 6.5 i'm trying to get 7 but somehow i can't sleep (i go to sleep at 9 pm, and try to get up at 4 but lately my sleep hasn't been so good. i dunno why.)

  8. Bahahahaha Shannon I totally agree! I was trying to explain to my mom why I watch it and I couldn't except to say it's so bad it's good. I just want to know what happens next. And Erik is RIDICULOUSLY hot. Yum.

  9. I refuse to read the books, watch the movies or get involved in any way shape or form.

And that's mainly because I fear being one of those obsessed people who pines over Edward and has t-shirts that say "Team Edward" and a shrine in my bedroom. I know myself too well

  10. Oh, at least you get a decent amount of sleep, Traynharder, I was worried you went to bed at midnight or something! But yeah, you're not supposed to get less than 7 hours, at the very least. Have any tips for getting/staying motivated to work out when the weather gets colder? I'm strugggling BIG TIME!

Shannon, you are too funny! Yes, getting kids/adults that act like kids to read is always a good thing :)

OMG, twentyfifth--def avoid seeing the movies if you aren't prepared to crush on Edward. And by crush I mean, start planning your wedding. I don't love Rob Patt, but Edward is so so sexy!!

  11. Okay - I'll admit I read every Twilight book and loved every minute of it! : ) But I haven't gotten into the rest of the vampire craze!

  12. Lalla, did you see the movie Twilight? How did it compare to the book? Everyone says the books are better, but I'd rather enjoy the movies, so I don't think I'm going to read them!

  13. i am not on the vampire bandwagon. i just can't get into it at all. BUT our office halloween party is today and i definitely stayed here until midnight decorating for our vampire themed party and i have to say it's pretty amazing.

what's the next supernatural cult following going to be? i vote the yeti.

  14. MA, it is so funny how SERIOUSLY people take Halloween, esp in NYC. I walked into work this morning to a fully decorated kitchen area, complete with perfectly carved pumpkins and hanging cobwebs.

  15. True Blood is the ONLY vampire show I can watch. Twilight bored me out of my skull and I didn't even see Vampire Diaries.
