Baby Phat Fashion Show

I went to my first Baby Phat fashion show about three years ago, and it was awesome. Everyone was there—50 Cent, JANET JACKSON, Lil' Kim, and many more I can't remember. I was in hip-hop heaven! The fashion was a bit over-the-top, but fun, and had a creative edge. This year, however, I had a different experience. The biggest star there was Kim Kardashian (love her, but still), and the person that got me most excited was Reverend Run's son, Diggy. He's da bomb, as I used to say back in the day. What is he, like twelve? A girl I was with insisted that this guy with long braids, baseball cap, tattoos all over and sunglasses was Lil' Wayne, but it wasn't. Trust me, I would KNOW if I saw Lil Wayne and it was not him. Fail.

Lisa Rinna was among many of the C-listers there. My hairdresser in KY (Hi Ron!) once told me I looked like her. I don't think so, but I'll take that as a compliment—pre-plastic surgery of course. I have to give it to her though, she has one bangin' bod for a 46 year-old.

The clothes were cute, but I was a bit underwhelmed. Kimora played it too safe, which is out of character for her. Here is a video of the models coming out at the end of the show. I had nosebleed seats, but still managed to get decent footage. It was kind of awkward how the girl messed up at the end—I think the backs of their shirts spelled PHAT. FYI, the bald girl with huge boobs wearing a purple dress and sunglasses in the front row is Kanye West's fake girlfriend, Amber Rose. You can see her a couple times if you look closely. (In case you care.)

Don't you love how random hard-bodied male models were thrown into the mix? No complaints here. I liked the black cut-out ruffled swim suit and black shredded jeans best. Not that I have the bod to wear either of those things, but they were cool!

At the end of the show, Kimora came out with her adorable daughters, Ming and Aoki Lee and newborn son, Kenzo.

It was interesting that Kimora's ex-husband, hip-hop mogul Russell Simmons was sitting right next to Kimora's new babby daddy, Djimon Hounsou. They were cordial to each other and posed for a few pics together, which was nice.

It was a cool experience all in all, but I must admit I'll be glad when Fashion Week is over. It's fun, but a little exhausting (even though I haven't been to that many events). And I never thought I'd say this, but I'm getting a bit tired of writing about celebrities, which has been the majority of my posts lately. I know that people love reading about celebs, so I'm hesitant to go back to the "old Ellen," but I started this blog for myself first, and I'm going to stay true to what I want to write about. Sometimes I'm a crying mess, sometimes pissed, and sometimes I'm just....broccoli. But that's me.

On a very random side note—and I'm not quite sure why I'm sharing this—I am currently working (just got a new assignment from Glamour, yay!) in my bed, watching Two Weeks Notice. I found it in my pile of VHS tapes; apparently, Liza and I never returned it to Blockbuster. Oops! It's a pretty cute movie. I love Hugh Grant's charm and Sandra Bullock is so funny. (She just said "twisty bobcat pretzel" like four times in a row. Does anyone who has seen the movie know what I'm talking about? No? Umm, ok, forget I mentioned it.)

I got up early with Liza and went running, and now I'm feeling a bit guilty for working in bed, but it's a gloomy day here in NYC, and I never do it, so I'm allowing myself this little treat today. So sorry, babbling again!

Tell me, what did you think of the Baby Phat show? And will you still have love for me even when I'm not writing about celebrities?

  1. Hey Ellen!!!! I love your blog - even when you write about broccoli and rubicund. The celebrity blogs are exciting, but I have really enjoyed all of your blogs. I think I’m addicted to them. :) Have a great day!
