Flirting with guys in a sports bar: FAIL

Yesterday I put on my Kentucky T-shirt and black leggings per Foster's instructions and headed to Dempsey's in the East Village to watch the UK/Georgia basketball game with my friends. As soon as I walked into the bar, I knew I had picked the wrong location because it was filled with loud, obnoxious Jets fans—what the heck?! I had heard that Kentucky fans go to Dempsey's, but they were nowhere in sight. We decided to make the best of it though and picked a table in the back near the pool table.

We were huddled in our little group for a while when I suggested we play a game of pool. Sure enough, guys started talking to us as soon as we started playing. Now, I didn't say they were cute or cool guys—or even over 5'4, but hey, it was a start!

Look how cute Tiff is. I loved her outfit, but made a joke that her beret might not be a boy magnet. She did rock the black leggings though. Guys, what do you think—beret or no beret in a sports bar?

Sarah, Shannon and Liza got it right with their cute 'n' casual outfits.

Eve and Liza played a game of darts and the nice, but geeky guys followed. One of the guys kept going on and on about Kentucky and our southern accents. Note to northern guys: Don't do that. Just don't, it gets old.

Me and Mary Allen!

The highlight of the day was the almost-fight that broke out. Apparently the guy in the navy sweatshirt was talking smack about the Bengals, and a dude got pissed because it was his girlfriend's favorite team. Lame.

So we totally failed in the meeting-guys department, but had a really fun girls day, so I guess all in all it wasn't a total loss. We definitely learned that location is key—we'll know for next time! In all honesty, I don't think any of us cared that much about meeting guys, we just wanted to put Foster's tips to the test. I guess you have to want it for it to happen, but how do you do that without trying too hard? Oh, P.S. How freaking cute is Eve's coat? It's from Topshop! I want it, I want it. And I can get it if I don't eat for two weeks. Right, it's not happening.

Anyway, I'm thinking we'll give it another go for the Superbowl. We'll see how that goes!

  2. Yes, it was still a good time...in my opinion you can never go wrong with having a girls day out at a sports bar! And it's never failed for me to start playing a game (buck hunter, darts, pool, etc) and have guys flock over. Another tip--it's not a bad idea to keep talking to a guy in a bar even if you're not attracted to him right off the bat. If you're open to talking to him (and he's not totally annoying or intoxicated) you never know what other friends he has or if one of your girlfriends could be interested in him. Not only will he tell his guy friends that you're cool, you might even get a decent conversation out of it. Be open, ladies!

  3. The tight leggins are always great! One of my fav things about the winter season. However, I would leave the beret at home when traveling to the sports bars. Well scratch that, I would leave it at home period :). Just one man's opinion though, im sure there are some fellas out there that go wild for the beret.

Who was the best pool player of the group?

  4. GREAT point, Eve! It's always good to be friendly in general, you never know what it could lead to. And this is a good point for guys to listen to as well. I've set a few guy friends up with my friends in the past and some of them didn't like the girl and they weren't too nice about telling me what they thought, and it totally turned me off. I was thinking, "Umm, right, I'm never setting you up again!!"

No worries, Flip, Tiffany takes criticism well. I poked fun of her about the beret being guy-repellent and she laughed. I guess it's back to the subject that you liked...cool fashion that girls like vs. what a guy will like. Although Eve scratched on the 8 ball which cost us the victory, I'd say she was the best, and Tiff and I were a tie for 2nd maybe???

  5. I love the beret, cause I love Tiff!
Hehe, but in all seriousness, I don't know if it's what you wear, more than how you wear it. Confidence and your own sense of style can sometimes attract THE guy rather than a guy.
