Welcome to the Lower East Side

My favorite 'hood in Manhattan by far is the Lower East Side. Here, you can get the real New York experience—great food, fun bars, stylish locals—without all the pretentious bullshit.

One of my favorite features on my new camera is the panoramic option. Here are three of my favorite street corners all in one pic!

A lot of movies have been filmed on Orchard Street—The Devil Wears Prada being one of them. Has anyone seen P.S. I Love You? I never did, but I noticed in the previews that Hilary Swank runs around this corner and swings around the pole of that clothing store. I love when I watch movies shot in NYC and know exactly where the scene is taking place.

Today my boyfriend and I went to one of my favorite cafes for brunch—Orchard 88. It's cute and cozy and the food is yummy. Every time I go, there is new artwork on the walls—today it was panoramic photos of a city, which I assume was Manhattan, but I didn't look closely enough to see for sure. Oops!

Muffins, pastries, bagels, croissants, cookies as big as your head—they've got it all. Mmm..

I've never been there when it wasn't crowded, so we had to go to the basement to grab the last available table. You can't do a great deal of people watching down there, but it's still cool—it feels like you're in a dungeon. You can even bust out a game of checkers or Scrabble while you nosh.

More artwork...

My usual order: Granola and berries with skim milk. It's too tasty to be as healthy as I want it to be, but it's so worth it. Yum!

Ok, so this is what I look like sans makeup. Not exactly a mug that would win a beauty pageant for vertically challenged Greek girls, but hey, it could be worse. Riiight?!

Alright, well I have a couple of work-related things to do as well as make a trip to the gym before I get my Saturday night started, so I gotta biz-ounce offa herrre. (Sorry, I'm listening to Eminem's Relapse right now and feeling just a bit ghetto. Dr. Dre just said, "If at first you don't succeed, it can't hurt to smoke some weed." Sound advice, Dre. Kids, you listenin'? Kiiiidding).

So I'm curious to know: Girls, do you wear makeup on the weekend during the day? Guys, do you like the au natural look? One of my New Year's resolutions is to fix up more consistently (not just when I'm going out), but I didn't exactly get off to a great start!

  1. I have always liked the "Girl Next Door" look. So, I actually think A lass in sweats and little or no make up is kinda cute... for some reason I love it when they wear a baseball cap with the ponytail pulled through the back. Even when all dolled up I always like the natural look to the make up as opposed to the whole "Jersey Girl" thing... most of them look like The Joker with a spray tan. Ironic since I have lived in Jersey all my life.

  4. You look amazing makeup or no makeup. I wish I could pull that look off, but my genetic dark circles require at least some concealer and mascara (but I must confess I feel more comfortable with a bit more).

I'm in love with your new camera. The camera fairy was good to you. The pictures are gorgeous.

As for P.S. I love you, it is a sweet movie but be prepared to have puffy eyes for at least a day.

    Happy New Year!

  5. The less makeup the better for me. Its ok as long as you can't really tell that it is there. If you have to wear makeup I think Carmindy should put it on for you. My wife watched a LOT of WNTW and she is awesome.

PS: The camera is taking nice pictures! I like tha panorama on the other post too.

  7. J, maybe you should come to NYC to go female "shopping" on the weekends then :)

I'm totally with ya, Genie, I need to do my nails more often, too! My hair doesn't look good in a ponytail, so I don't need to worry about that, but yes, concealer and mascara is a MUST!!

Sara, LOVE the mismatched sweats—glad I wasn't the only one lookin' a bit rough this past weekend! Next time you rock that look (or any look really), take a pic and email it to me and let me post it. C'mon, it'll be fuuun!!! :)

OMG, Al, you are too nice—as always. I've got pretty bad dark circles, too...guess I got lucky this time. On a random note, the concealer I've found works best is Benefit's "Trick and Treatment" in "Bright On." It's actually a bit darker, which might be why it works?? I always used really light concealer thinking it would make my circles lighter, but it never worked. Anyway, Happy New Year and glad u like the pics!!

Yes, G, Carmindy is a makeup MASTER...don't deny the fact that you love watching What Not To Wear! ;)
