Suburbia: The land of garage sales and craft stores
These hair bow holders were the only things that interested me besides the Dora The Explorer books. (Lord knows why? I found myself wishing I had a little person to buy them for.)
And then we hit up Hobby Lobby. I liked saying it, Hobby Lobby. Hobby Lobby, Hobby Lobby, Hobby Lob...right. It's kind of like a Michael's, only a bit more gangster. Court filled her cart with really important things like plastic Easter eggs and ribbon with ladybugs on it ;)
Ahh fun times. What's your favorite thing about being in the 'burbs? Cruising Walmart? Strip Malls? Here's what I like to do when I'm home in Kentucky.
What keeps you going when you feel like calling it quits?
But, I know in my heart that that would make me happy for like, a week. The novelty would wear off and then I'd be dreaming of my days in NYC where I didn't know what was going to happen from one day to the next. Literally. It's stressful, but exciting. There's just something about the hustle of the city that I'm addicted to. I hate it and love it at the same time. Right now, I hate it. New York, why can't I quit you?!
On the inside, I feel like this most of the time--beaten and worn down. Exhausted. Do I have another round in me? Just when it feels like I don't, I pull another one out of my ass. Somehow. I don't know how.
Hope. Ambition. Friends. Family. God. The power of change. And dreams. And believing. These are the things that keep me going when I feel like calling it quits. What about YOU?

Do you play a social sport?
Saturday we hit the tennis courts. I haven't even held a racquet in at least ten years, despite my mom's constant encouragement to take up a "social sport." Court's a pro, so I asked for a couple pointers before we got started. Check out the vid!
I had a lot of fun playing tennis, even though my technique has quite a lot to be desired. I think I've found my social sport, y'all! I can totally see myself getting competitive with it too. (You wanna step to this Ramona? Invite me to play a game on the next season of The Housewives of New York and see what happens.) Now all I need is a buddy in NYC to battle me on the court. Who's down?! I'm open to free lessons too ;) Ohh, remember this workout sesh I had with Serena Williams? Call me, girl!
So tell me: Do you play a social sport like tennis or golf? Are you on a sports team? If not, has there been something you've been wanting to try? Just DO IT!

Airport Style: Take 3
I can only imagine what the two men I was sandwiched in between thought about my little photo sesh. Snapping pics for the bloggy blog has become so second-nature to me that I don't even realize I might be doing something a bit weird until after the fact!
This hat I got from Urban Outfitters was a lifesaver. There's really nothing cute about me at 4am, but at least I don't look like a total slob.

Springtime, party time, ALL the time!
Satin pants—apparently I need a pair. Most of the models were rocking them. And how great is that long scarf? So chic!

Is this REAL LIFE?
I'm sure by now everyone has seen this (except for my mom maybe!), but it cracks me up every time I watch it, which is a lot. "Am I going to feel like this forever? Is this real life?" Sadly, no...and no, kid. Over the last year, David's family has made BANK from this little trip to the dentist. While the family has been overwhelmed with support, some people think it was wrong for David's dad to put the video on YouTube for the world to see. Child exploitation? I think not. It's harmless. Plus, David is loooving the attention. He's a "ROCKSTAR!" Check out this recent interview here. I kinda liked him better on pain killers, but whatever.
Yes, some people are obnoxious in their self-promotion/money-making ventures, but I love how these types of success stories give me the feeling that anything's possible if you put yourself out there. While I'd be thrilled to just get a full-time job right now, the possibility of something BIGGER happening one day keeps me going.
How do you feel about people gaining fame and fortune all over the internet? What's been your favorite success story? Least favorite?
Are bloggers real writers? Discuss.
OK, so obviously the asshole who put this sign up outside his bar during SxSW has not come across Fired 'n' Fabulous yet...obvi. Kidding. I could care less. If there are bloggers out there pulling the "Don't you know who I AM?!" stunt, then they deserve it. (Who are you, Justin Long?)
However, a lot of people DO give a shit about bloggers. They are being taken more and more seriously (Hello, this teenager sat front row at every major show during Fashion Week!), and little of that has to do with the fact that they are real writers. Most aren't. I know a lot of amazing writers with unsuccessful blogs--the two don't really go hand-in-hand. You have to just kinda...get it. I'm by no means the authority on blogs, and mine is a constant work in progress, but I think I have a general idea of what works and what doesn't. I try to keep it real and write about things people can relate to, while sprinkling in a bit of fun and fabulosity here and there. And I really try to cut myself off when I start to ramble. (I'm constantly asking myself, "Would anyone care about this?") Right, I think it's about that time.

Have you ever been caught gettin' busy?
The all-time best "caught" story is Jim's apple pie incident in American Pie. God, I love that movie. (I've reference it before here.) His dad's masturbation talk was pricelss: "I have to admit I did a fair bit of masturbating when I was younger. I used to call it stroking the salami. You know, pounding the pud. I never did it with baked goods, but your Uncle Mort, he pets the one-eyed snake five to six times a day." And if memory serves me correctly, there was also a brief clitoris chat. Umm yeah, I think plenty of guys could benefit from that one!
So tell me: Have YOU ever been caught gettin' busy? Spill it--I know you have! And check out the Glamour stories here. Which one is your favorite?
"You need to get a hobby!"
Tax time for freelancers can be quite a nightmare (it was for me, but I can't even go there right now), and this unintentional slap in the face did not help matters anyway. The blog is a labor of love I suppose, but you better believe I reassured tax girl that next year I'd come back with a lot more than just a HOBBY to discuss!

Z is for Zumba
I really enjoyed it, but I had to do more stopping and starting than I wanted. (Umm yeah, not sure why I decided to bust out those dance moves--sorry you had to witness that!) I'm a pretty coordinated gal, so hopefully I'll be a pro in no time if I keep at it! I'd like to incorporate more Zumba classes into my workout routine to mix things up and have fun, but I don't think it could never replace my calorie-scorching runs or sports conditioning classes.
This is a pretty good looking shoe, huh? I've never had such a stylish and comfy sneaker before. I didn't take them off all day long!
After the class Kateri and I went to Grey Dog's on Carmine Street to catch up over coffee. I love that place!
I was tempted by the baked goods. (I mean, HELLO most delicious looking cookie I've ever seen!) But I got what I came for...
Look how cute Kateri is post-workout!

Table for one, please
Plans with my bf fell through, and I wasn't in the mood to try to scrape together plans with friends at the last minute, so there I was, all alone on a Friday night. I didn't have money to do what I really wanted to, which was order in sushi and check out what was playing at the movie theatre down the street, so I had to compromise. Earlier in the afternoon I was given a restaurant menu, which normally I'd chuck into the trash, but the boy passing them out caught my attention by exclaiming, "You gotta try this healthy fast food!" Healthy fast food, eh? Like what, chicken nuggets and fries that won't expand your ass?
So I headed to Spark on First ave near 91st street to see what this new healthy fast food place was all about. (FYI for New Yorkers: They are also opening locations on Lexington at 83rd and 2nd ave at 49th.) The menu had many appealing options like wraps, salads and chicken, salmon and tofu dishes. I went with the whole wheat chicken wrap with brown rice, salsa and mixed vegetables--it was really fresh and yummy, and yep, super-speedy, too! I cozied up in the corner reading InTouch Weekly (poor Sandra Bullock!) and munched away on my wrap. I felt a little lonely as I watched the couple next to me laughing and kissing, but I was content.
Afterwards, I went to Starbucks to work on some story ideas for a website that could potentially turn into a regular freelance gig. (Fingers crossed!) I headed home around 11pm and fell asleep watching My Best Friend's Wedding. What a wild and crazy Friday night!
This morning I woke up feeling refreshed and went to my very first Zumba class. Check back tomorrow for my video recap--I loved it! What did everyone else do last night? Hopefully something more exciting than I did! And do you ever have quiet Friday nights by yourself? Do you enjoy it?
