Have you ever written someone a love letter?

I was looking through some things on my boyfriend's bookshelf tonight (no, I wasn't snooping), and found the "love letter" I wrote him this year for his birthday. I remember watching him read it, and then re-read it, and just knowing by the expression on his face that it was probably the best thing I'd ever given him. (Er, except for those Armani shades--right, honey?!)

I'll admit, this wasn't the first mushy note I've ever written someone, but it certainly was the most meaningful. I wrote a guy I dated in college (we'll call him Guy #2 because I haven't mentioned him yet) a letter when I realized things just weren't going to work out. (I think he figured that out far before I did!) I remember saying something about how I needed a guy who would "fight for me," and I knew he couldn't do that. I know, I know, Velveeta. Sheesh, what was I thinking? I wasn't. That letter was so freakin' long, I'm pretty sure I had to put at least three stamps on the envelope!

Cards and letters are my absolute favorite things in the world. (Yes, even more than clothes and pizza). I used to say I wanted to write greeting cards for a living, and hell, I still might. So tell me: Have you ever written someone a love letter? Has someone written one for YOU? How did it make you feel?

  1. Oh my gosh! I'm so with you on the greeting cards. There is an old-fashioned card and stationary store by my house, and I could spend hours in there just reading card.
    It's ridiculous!

I write "love letters" to my family on their b-day, Christmas, etc. My poor Dad can't read them without tearing up and will often "save them for later" if we're in public. He's so sentimental.

I hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving! XOXO

  3. Since C and I dated for two years long distance before we got engaged we often wrote each other love letters. Now, we keep them all together in a box and every once in awhile we pull them out. They're a great reminder of the early days of our relationship.

Even if I do wince sometimes at some of the Velveeta things I penned!!

  4. My first love wrote me a letter when he went off to college - I slept with it under my pillow for forever. I felt so excited and beautiful and overjoyed. Because he said everything I always felt for him and everything I hoped he felt about me. It still in his box..a bit cheesey but then again I'm from WI.
