How do you feel about UGG boots?

When Courtenay left me a message last night saying, "Call me, I have a fashion question," I knew it would have something to do with footwear. Sure enough, when I called Court back, she asked, "Will I be ridiculed if I wear UGGs one afternoon?" I told her not to worry and that it would be fine—as long as she's not planning to rock this look, of course.

People that live in South Carolina can get away with flip flops at least six months out of the year, and most of the time, flats suffice. So, I certainly understood Court's dilemma—especially since she's coming to NYC in November and plans to do a lot of walking. I don't personally love UGGs, but if you keep your look simple and don't let your jeans bunch up too much at the top, they can actually look kinda cute. I think they look best with black leggings, an off-the-shoulder sweatshirt and scarf type of outfit. Or a plaid shirt. Hell, now I'm even wanting a pair!

They're warm, they're practical and sometimes when it's cold out, UGGs are your best option. How do you feel about them? And how many pairs do YOU have?

  1. i know they are the shoe people love to hate. and i was definitely of that ilk for a while. they are just UGGLY. but they are legit the most comfortable pair of shoes i have owned. last year i was coerced into buying a pair and i don't think i took them off more that 3 times all season. it is actually embarrassing looking back on it. but that is kinda my style i guess-jeans, sweater, uggs. or leggings, sweater, uggs.

i am happy to report i have branched out but still. they are like socks. i wouldn't ever wear them with a skirt though....

  2. Ellen - first of all - love your blog! Second, I have two pairs of Uggs and I live in SC. They are my winter version of flip flops. My husband calls them my Ugg-ly boots, but I don't care. They are so comfy and you don't have to wear socks with them. Happy blogging!

  3. This is the best post yet! I love my Uggs. People like Tori Spelling & that girl above make it hard to believe that normal people own them... but we do! I have two pairs-- boots & slippers. They are generally only worn around the house, but sometimes I "forget" to take them off. :)

  4. I am always torn about wearing my UGGS too. I have a brown and black pair. Usually warmth and comfort end up out weighing fashion, since they are pretty ugly.

  5. after living LA and seeing girls like that all the time, I will never own a pair of UGGs. but I do have a pair of vintage Italian goat hair boots that are shearling-lined, and they are the most comfortable things in the world. so I get it, I'll just never buy into the trend.

  6. Seems like everyone has the same sentiments about UGGs for the most part. I've never actually worn a pair, but I AM all about comfort, esp when it's gross out, so ya never know...I could break down and buy a pair. Are they expensive?

Liz, where are u in SC now??

    Thanks for fun comments :)

  7. They're around $100. I bought a pair of Emus (same diff) and wore them so much the tread completely wore off the sole. They're so warm and snuggly.

  9. Funny, I log in to read your blog as I am wearing ugg boots! With skinny jeans, an American Apparel long sleeved t and a winter vest (think Roxy but cheap and from Old Navy!). I don't always care for the look...I really think they look best very casual and on someone who obviously just throws them on. Too much thought and accesorizing really kill it.

They are super comfy- I have a tan pair and a black sweater material pair that I love. I got both on sale for 70 bucks. Just shop around :)

  10. okay, i know i'm always commenting on stuff late ell, but i just had to chime in here cause now i'm teaching undergrads, ugh! (pun intended). you remember the south....as soon as the calendar says november, all the Georgia girls are in their fall uniform (regardless of the fact it's still 70 degrees): nike shorts and UGGS and makeup galore! i can't teach ed psych without wanting to break for a fashion lesson!
