Have you ever not worn something because you were afraid a guy wouldn't like it?

I had a conversation about this with a few of my more fashion-forward friends the other day. Should girls think twice before wearing something really trendy or artistic because guys might not get it? I had a hard time answering that question. Ultimately, I think girls should wear whatever makes them feel confident. Afterall, confidence is attractive. However, by doing so, the pool of guys that find your style appealing might be less than say, a girl who wears cute, but basic jeans and heels outfits.

Check out this Dolce and Gabbana suit Rihanna wore at the MET Costume Gala this summer. I actually think the outfit is pretty cool, but I can only imagine what the look on my boyfriend's face would be if I ever wore something like this. Then again, I'm not Rihanna.

I love Fergie and I'm all for individuality, but I am not comprehending this look she rocked recently in Paris at all. Call me crazy, but if I had just found out that my husband was banging a stripper, I'd be more inclinded to wear something a little more feminine.

I was still stumped after thinking more about this question, so I asked my boyfriend what he thought. He basically said that a girl should wear what she likes and what makes her feel good. Even if it's not appealing to all guys, she'll be more inclined to meet the right guy for her--someone who appreciates her for who she is. Good point.

What about you: Have you ever not worn something because you were afraid a guy wouldn't like it? And guys: What's one article of clothing you can't stand on girls? My boyfriend isn't a big fan of boyfriend jeans, but I wear them anyway!

  1. Last week I got this super cute and short green dress which I was sure my bf would love. I modeled it for him and all I got was
    '' It's...nice''.

I told him, you don't sound too excited over it. He confessed that he didn't like the second skirt because it hides the hips.

I even showed him the pic of Blake Lively wearing the same model to state my point, but all I got was '' Imagine how hotter it would look if that little apron didn't exist'' haha

  3. I have definitely fallen into this trap before. My ex was into the Ralph Lauren classics if you will, i.e. solid colors, blazers, classic pencil skirts, polos, etc. I would pass by some of the flowery, feminine DVF-like pieces because I knew he'd like a classic black halter dress better (which I loved as well). However, I'm starting to realize that although I do enjoy rocking the classics, my wardrobe is DEFINITELY expanding since I've been single and I LOVE it! It's all about exploring your OWN personal style.

  4. Marina, I love that dress! I can see where it would hide the hips. It's awesome for showing off a teeny waist, though, and some LEG!

  5. Yeah I loved the dress, too bad he didn't haha. Blake is wearing one of Victoria Beckham creations.

I got mine at a cute boutique in Ipanema in Rio de Janeiro. It's a summery knockoff since I can't really justify spending over $1,000 on a dress! haha

  6. A little off topic, but I was at a bar in our hood with a group of guy friends. There was this tall, pretty girl there, and she was rocking these FIERCE high-waisted jeans. Like, homegirl really nailed it. But my guy friends were just like, what's with that girl and her ugly pants? All I could think was Really?? This girl is a 9.5 and you're criticizing her pants?!?!!

  7. You women and your misplaced view of men, we are simple creatures, and most of the time if you are happy we are happy. we certainly don't enjoy spending out time discussing your latest fashion trends.

To Thea, we also love to call out girls who think they are the shit. Those jeans sound like they were worn by a girl who puts off that I'm-too-cool vibe.

  9. Kelly, that's cool that you're expanding your wardrobe and learning more about your personal style. It's never too late to reinvent your look!

Thea, that is crazy, but I'm not surprised. Guys judge girls on stuff like that waaay more than they'd like to admit. Which brings me to Flip...

Flip, I know I'm not a dude, but I just don't believe that guys don't judge girls based on appearance (and yes, that means style!) I doubt they discuss the trends, but I don't think it's far-fetched to say that something a girl wears may or may not influence a guy's reaction toward her--whether it's positive or negative.

  10. Yea it does for sure, don't get me wrong. But i don't believe the way women and men view or think about style are that closely aligned.
