Adventures in Babeland

Babeland is actually the name of a sex toy shop in the Lower East Side, but sorry guys, this post is not going to be about dildos and nipple tassels. The baby shower yesterday was a success—here's the recap!

Here I am with the Mommy-to-be. Courtenay just might be the cutest preggo woman I have ever seen.

I thought these blocks were adorable!

And these dresses: Precious.

The food was yummy but I'm just posting my favorites. Pimento cheese and pita chips...Mmm. I don't remember the last time I had it—it's a Southern thang, y'all.

Petit Fours—this is a new word for me. Who knew there was a fancy name for bite-sized cake? I had half of one, but I could have easily eaten the whole tray. Willpower, WHAT?!

So I actually forgot to try this carmel apple dip. How that happened, I am not sure. But, I wanted to post it because it's so pretty and easy to make. Basically you just take a block of cream cheese and spread it on the bottom of a tray. Carmel dipping sauce is the next layer, and then crumbled Heath bar goes on top. Cut up a few Granny Smiths and you're good to GO!

Here's a vid of Court talking about how she's decorating the baby's room. Even if you're like me and nowhere near ready to have a babe of your own, it's still interesting to see how it all comes together, especially because she's got so many wallet-friendly finds. Still don't give a shit? Trust me, it's worth watching just to hear her sweet Southern twang!

My videotaping is becoming down right embarrassing. Lord! Ohh and I forgot to mention that the onesies I gave her are from the boutique I work at in Park Slope—Goldy+Mac! Here are the other sites she mentioned:

Bedding: Joshua Tree
Wall art: Home Decorators
Hanging Pom Poms: Anne Musing Designs

So what did you think about the shower and Courtenay's video? She's a natural in front of the cam! And how many baby showers have you been to? I've only been to four (if you count the one I went to in high school, that is!)

  1. PS: It really is amazing all the things they have invented for baby showers...you just never know what they are going to come up with =)

  2. Petit Fours are a must at any baby shower, and I think I would have inhaled that pimento cheese. I have lost count of the number of baby showers I have been to. My office has been very "fertile" since I started working here, so we have had lots of showers (because we are awesome like that). We always get a sheet cake that looks like a pram. Cute AND delicious.
I like "Sip n See" showers best, as they 1) tend to involve wine and 2) involve the baby already being there for cooing. This is a good shower option if the mommy-to-be is religious and cannot accept gifts beforehand or had to be on bed-rest. It is also a good option if you are a bunch of lushes. So really it could apply to anyone.

  4. i've been to zero baby showers, THANK GOD! at this stage in my life, you know being at the ideal child bearing age, babies and pregnancy freak me out. don't get me wrong, babies are cute (most of 'em) but i'm not ready to sacrifice my mind, body and soul to a growing parasite--i mean child, and i'm not ready for any of my close friends to take that step either. but courtney is as cute as a georgia peach, and i heart her color scheme. question--are all potential mommy's supposed to custome design the baby's nursery?? cuz if so, my kid (in ten years) is gonna jack outta luck...
btw--how could you forget to try the caramel apple dip?! caramel is to me as coke is to lindsey lohan. a destructive but loving relaionship. lol

  5. Hi there! Thanks for stopping by...are you in Asia? Glad you like the blog :)

Yeah, Kim, I was constantly asking, "Uhh, what is THAT for?"

Shannon, I LOVE the Sip and See idea! I agree with Steph...definitely my kind of shower! What about Gulp and See or Chug and See? That would be even better :)

I'm with ya, Nadette, I am way too selfish right now to have a babe! And I have no idea how I forgot to try the dip. Everyone was raving about it! That was very out of character for me!
