J to tha Lo

Thursday night Liza and I went to see The Back-Up Plan. (This is no time for judgment, people.) The movie was just as I suspected it would be: cheesy and predictable. So why did I see it? To stare at J.Lo for an hour and 38 minutes, of course. I know I've said in the past that Eva Mendes and Khloe Kardashian are two of my girl crushes, but seeing J.Lo on the big screen again bumped her up to the numero uno spot. I mean, just look at her.

This is obviously an old school shot, but she wasn't too far from this in the movie. And hello momma has twins! Whatever crazy detox or maple syrup diet she's on is WORKING. I know fad diets are unhealthy and torturous, but if this is the result then it seems more than worth it. Don't worry, guys, you know I don't have enough willpower to actually go on one!

When I first moved to New York, I went through a phase where I wore huge gold hoop earrings all the time. People would stop me on the street and ask for directions in Spanish because they assumed I was Hispanic. I'd do my best to help: "Caminar derecha...es dos calles..." but it didn't take long for them to realize it wasn't my native tongue. I was annoyed by these presumptions at first--I mean, it is possible to have bushy eyebrows, thick legs and gold hoop earrings and not be Hispanic! But then I took it as a compliment. I wanna be Jenny from the block!

So yeah, J.Lo (I will always refer to her as this) is my all-around celeb idol. Beauty, style, talent, personality--she has it all. Who's yours?

  2. Gosh, JLo is looking great, especially after having twins?! I haven't seen Back Up plan yet, my friend said it was a cute predictable movie. =)

  3. I HAVE noticed she's been looking skinny lately. I'd LOVE to know how she does it!

Yep, CGM, cute and predictable is exactly right. The acting is a bit painful to watch at times, but J.Lo does a pretty good job.

  4. I'm going to do something i haven't done before ellen, i'm going to critcize you (we can still be friends though, right?).

I'm really irritated with this post. my issue is not with your obession with J.Lo or that kardashian chick (neither are my cup of tea, but i'm totally girl crushing on eva mendez so to each her own) but on your FOCUS on her weight and positive spin on her recently waife-like frame.

    1. why is being "skinny" considered such a great thing? J.Lo, before she decided to run a triathalon to lose the baby weight, was just perfect in all her curvacious beauty. (i'll not comment on the fact that it took a latin woman with a big butt for america to accept/embrace bootyliciousness).

    2. as other commentors have pointed out to you before, such sentiments are indicative of a negative body image you may have about your size 6 fabulous self. now i'm not fool, i know we women will always have something about our bodies we wish were different (men feel that way too, i WISH to God the media would stop dumping all this shit on women, but I digress), but being in love with this "skinny ideal" is just not good ellen, I'm telling you. i've seen your pictures, i can't imagine you being a size smaller, you would probably look emaciated--and that aint cute! take it from me, as a skinny woman (read NO FEMININE CURVES) it ain't all its cracked up to be. what i wouldn't give for a bigger frame, some hips, some boobs (not big, just bigger than what i have), i would be thrilled.

what i'm trying to say is stop focusing on the number on the scale. do you look good in your clothes? yes. does your bf think your sexy (i'm sure he does). are you healthy? (i assume you are cuz you blog everyday). be aware of the thoughts you have about your body, about food, and it doesn't sound positive, its time to rethink your persepctive.

we can still be friends though, right?

  5. Hi Nadette, sorry I'm just now responding! FIrst off, OF COURSE we can still be friends. Duh.

I DO like curves. I think Beyonce's body is amazing, I like my muscular thighs (USED to hate them), I work so so SO hard at the gym to give my ass a little POW. With that being said, would I like to lose those last few stubborn pounds? Yes. I want to be the best version of myself that I can be. Why don't I deserve a flat tummy and sculpted arms? I DO agree that my mindset and approach is not ideal, and honestly I struggle with my internal dialogue every day. I don't like waif figures, so I guess my mentioning J.LO looking great now was more of just amazement as to how she can look like that after twins. I prefer her more curvy for sure. I do think she looks insanely beautiful in this pic though. A few pounds heavier would probably be better.

Also know that yes, I am being totally honest and blurting out what's in my crazy little mind, but sometimes I'm joke or exaggerate a bit just to add a little color. Maybe that is the wrong approach. I do struggle with body image, and in my constant effort to just be consistently healthier in general, I hope everything will fall into place. It probably doesn't seem like it, but I've come a long way. Things I used to hate about myself, I have learned to not only accept, but really like. And I no longer FREAK OUT if I miss a session at the gym or berate myself for falling off the wagon and gorging on ice cream.

So yes, I do agree that I should be more positive and appreciate my body more. Sorry if I'm totally rambling! Hope some of this made sense!
