Bachelorette Party Recap

I had an absolute blast this weekend. Liza and I planned the festivities and we couldn't have been happier with how everything turned out. Friday for dinner we went to Bread in Soho—it was delish! We had calamari, arugula salad, bruschetta and mozzarella for starters. For my main dish, I had chicken milanese with salad, and dessert was chocolate cake, cheesecake and ricotta cheese with fruit—so good! I wish I had taken pics, darn. I went a little overboard on the calamari, but no serious damage was done. After dinner we headed to a bar called Vig for "a couple drinks."

But of course we didn't leave until 3:30am! You know when you're out and EVERY song the DJ plays makes you so excited you just can't stand it? It was one of those nights.

Here I am with the bachelorette and her twin sis, Molly. We've been best friends for 15 years, but we actually "met" when we were babies. We were in the Twins and Multiples Club together in Lexington, KY where I'm from (I'm a triplet, btw!). Cute, right? They are the only two people I know that may possibly be better dancers than I am. ;)

In case you're wondering, I did NOT eat anything late-night. Victory! And the next day at brunch, I ordered a yummy, but healthy meal of scrambled egg whites, salad and chicken apple sausage. I passed on the mimosas and got a skim latte and avoided the bread basket. It felt nice to be in control, even after a late night of drinking. The especially nice thing was that I didn't feel deprived or wish I had gotten the eggs benedict or biscuits and gravy.

After an afternoon of shopping, we came over to my apartment for Becca's "naughty" lingerie shower. (Ryan, I think you'll be pleased!). Then we headed off for some Mexican food at Barrio Chino—one of my favorites in NYC! That's when the real fun began.

Meet Ignacio. He was Becca's blowup doll companion for the night. He loves fish tacos, jalapeno margaritas and salsa dancing.

We solicited signatures for Ignacio on the subway. Some profanities were written, but for the most part people kept it clean. (Not me!) I think this guy wrote something cheesy like "I hope your marriage lasts longer than this blowup doll!" Thanks, guy. (JK, he was nice!).

At dinner, I asked a guy to sign Ignacio, but he signed me instead. I'm still trying to figure out why I let a total stranger get that close to me with a permanent marker! Sketchy.

Next we went to Sway for more dancing and bottle service. We were literally shoved off the dance floor at 4:10am. What a fun night!

The end of my night looked a little something like this:

I got a slice of pepperoni. Megan talked me out of getting a second slice—thank goodness! Then my breakfast/lunch the next day went a little something like this:

I didn't even wake up hungry, but for some reason I thought it would be "fun" to go crazy at McDonalds. I got two crispy chicken snack wraps, a large fry and a large Diet Coke. I didn't even want the fries, yet I got a LARGE. As soon as I devoured my greasy meal, my stomach started hurting. My body didn't want this junk. I didn't want this junk. I thought about why I made my trip to the Golden Arches and I really think it was a "reward" for doing so well with my eating Friday night and Saturday during the day. I do that a lot. Once I start doing well consistently with my eating and get compliments on weight loss, I loosen my belt a bit. Of course a cheat here and there is totally fine (and very necessary), but when I eat "just because" I feel totally gross and barbaric. Anyway, I digress.

No amount of greasy fries could have taken away from the fun I had this weekend. Tell me, how was yours?

  5. I couldn't have described the weekend any better! Oh wait, I recall someone telling me during the weekend that I was a horrible writer (Elle, that still hurts)! What an amazing weekend! But why doesn't anyone in NYC deliver pizza at 5am?! Oh well, your McDonalds trip was my Papa Johns deliver the next day. Thanks for everything :)

  6. Sorry, Molls!! By some people's standards, I'm a horrible writer too, so don't feel too bad :) Next time, come downtown for 5am pizza!

  8. Hi Sarah!!! Great to hear from you. Ignacio was actually Matthew Ransdall's Spanish name at LTMS, haha. I'm REALLY going to try to make it to the reunion. As you might have read, my funds are pretty low, but I really want to make it happen. I will keep you posted on my plans!

  9. Elle, whoever has those standards screw them! You are a great writer!!

Hey Sarah! I will be at our reunion, but I'm in Lexington now.

  10. Thanks, girls! Yep, I've been told by editors that my writing needs a lot of work. The best was when an editor told me I was "too cliche." I had to fight back the tears. I guess I'd rather have honesty though—that way I can improve!

  11. Love this recap! I think your writing style is pretty great - from the heart, which is important. Question, why can't I see some of the pics? Does everyone else see them?

  12. Thanks, Blair! Hmm...sometimes all you need to do is refresh the page, I've had a problem a couple times, but then it works when I do that. Let me know if you still can't see them...

  13. seems like it was a fun bachelorette party :) ignacio looks so hot lol :) in my side of teh country, women and men don't really have bachelorette /bachelor's parties that much so this is kind of fun to see :) and congrats to your friend on her future wedding :) her bachelorette party looks fun enough i bet her wedding would be a blast too :)
maybe a review about her big day would be fun too? oohh that's interesting hehe i love weddings and wedding photos! :)

i think it's sweet of you to write about this Ellen! ;)

  14. Odessa, where do you live? It's interesting to see people's different cultures. In England, they call bachelorette parties a "hen do." Thought that was cute. Anywaaay, Becca's big day is Sept. 26 in Charleston, South Carolina. You can DEFINITELY count on seeing lots of fun pics from the wedding on here, so stay tuned!!!

  15. well how about that, i learned something new today.. a "hen do" hehe sounds oriental though
    ooohhh wedding photos! ^_^ exciting!

  16. Well the "hen" part means girls (like the female chicken)...not sure what "do" is, I think it just means party/get-together. For English guys (and probably guys from other European countries) a bachelor party is called a "stag do." Stag is a bull. I just looked that up online :) The only reason I know about this is because my bf, Luke is from London!

  17. LOL IGNACIO!! That was amazing.

Okay, confession: I feel so relieved after reading about your McD binge. You're always so disciplined about eating and working out, so it's like I'm seeing the non-machine side of Ellen :)

P.S. I couldn't sleep last night, so I got up and cooked a cheeseburger AT 3 AM!! It's like we fell off the wagon together ;)

  18. I'm glad I could make you feel normal, The. I'm sure it won't be the last time I fall off the wagon. If I could only stop this bad habit, maybe my beach bod would resemble more Shakira and less Hilary Duff, haha!

  19. Stunning photographs! You are looking very pretty. Couple of weeks ago went to my friend’s bachelorette party at one of popular NYC venues. The royal blue theme party was arranged with floral décor over the place and that was awesome.
