Do you have workout ADD?

I do sometimes and it SUCKS. I hate when I watch the clock at the gym when I KNOW I should be too busy working up a sweat to even think about what time it is! The other day I went to a spinning and yoga class back to back. (I've been doing double workouts on days I have the time because my schedule has been so sporadic lately.) In both classes I just watched the seconds tick, tick, tick on by. The spinning instructor was partially to blame though. She played the WORST music ever—it was a random techno mix, and I hate techno. Umm hello, teach, is a little Rihanna too much to ask for?! I just couldn't get motivated, so I left class ten minutes early to do some glute work before yoga.
I'm pretty good at concentrating on exercises that concern my ass, so for those 10 minutes, I was focused. But then it was time to get my downward facing dog on, and I was back to being distracted. Just as I'd start thinking about my To-Do list and what I was going to have for dinner, the teacher would say, "Don't let your mind drift. Bring it back to what you are doing in this very moment." Damn, the bitch is a mind reader! Well, she probably caught me glancing at the clock every five minutes. She also told us to "find our inner juiciness" and that "deeper doesn't mean better." Who the hell can concentrate with commentary like THAT?!

So yep, I'm diagnosing myself with workout ADD. Who else gets it? Is there a cure?

When's the last time you've had to swallow that pill—called pride?

So I never told you guys about this, but about two months ago I applied for a part-time job at a spinning studio to work at the front desk. (It's actually the same studio I told you about in this post.) I was asked to come in and try a class and then get trained for the position. As I was being taught how to clock people in and fold the towels a certain way, I was thinking to myself, Am I seriously doing this right now? Am I really this desperate? Apparently, I was. It actually wasn't so bad. The people were cool and I got to take a free spinning class, but I knew it wasn't for me. Dealing with grumpy rich women who've had entirely too much Botox and haven't ingested anything other than non-fat lattes in over a week is not my idea of fun. I was only there one day, but if I had heard a bitch complain about how her "assigned bike isn't close enough to the front of the room" one more time I would have shot myself. In the foot.

I wasn't technically offered the job, so when The Knot emailed me the next day about helping them with a research project, I jumped on the opportunity. Honestly, I never thought that at (almost) 29 years-old, I'd be cruising Craigslist for the same type of jobs I had when I was eighteen.

Even though the consistent paychecks from my current gig are certainly helping, I'm nowhere close to being financially comfortable yet. So, when I was recently asked to babysit on a Saturday night until 3am, I said yes. (Is it terrible that I asked for cab money home in addition to my hourly rate?) Babysitting is fine, and the girls are sweet, but I do feel a little weird about it. I mean, it's just totally awkward when the parents come home wasted and hand me a wad of cash.

So yeah, I guess you could say I've had to just suck it up and swallow my pride lately. Can anyone else out there relate to this?

Three disturbing things I experienced at the gym yesterday.

I always try to go to spinning on Thursdays at my gym (NYSC) because the instructor's eccentric personality (he does jazz hands periodically throughout class) is fun and motivating. Yesterday's class wasn't as enjoyable as usual because the girl next to me had the worst b.o. EVER. I tried to get into the music and block it out of my mind, but every few mintues I would get a whiff that was just too strong to ignore. That brings me to #1: People who go to the gym sans deodorant. Why?
Yes, Teen Spirit is the deodorant I'm currently rocking under my pits. If I had my choice, I'd always wear Secret, but I got like 10 of these in the mail at a previous job, so I'm not going to spend money on deodorant until they're gone! If you recall this story, you know how excited I get about FREE things.
#2: People who take the elevator a the gym. I saw three young, perfectly healthy looking girls waiting for the elevator...to go DOWN. Up or down, I don't understand why anyone would take the elevator at the gym (I use every opportunity I can to take stairs for a little extra exercise), but especially going down. Does anyone understand the logic in this?
#3: A 60-something year-old woman greeted her trainer with a smooch on the lips. Ewww. That's just nasty; no one wants to see that. The 20-something year-old trainer didn't seemed phased one bit. I can't decide which part of this equation is more disturbing.
Despite these unpleasant experiences, I was feeling pretty good about my gym attire. I got this cute tee at the Serena Williams Nike event the other day. Vicious, ambitious, delicious. That's me, alright! Uh huh. This is a big improvement from the gym outfit I wrote about in this post. Wouldn't you say?
Tell me: Has anyone had any oh. no. she/he di'n't! moments at the gym recently??

Best.Workout.Ever.

I went to bed at 12:30 last night and woke up to my alarm at 6am. You know when your alarm is going off, but you're so tired you think that the annoying beeping noise is just a dream? That's how I felt. I was invited to test out a spinning class at SoulCycle on the Upper West Side this morning, which is why I was up so early.

I spin once, sometimes twice a week, but I was a little nervous entering the class. I had heard that it is THE spinning class to take in the city, and that the instructors are hardcore—a lot of them come from L.A. When I walked in, I was handed a pair of biking shoes to wear that attached to the pedals. I was a bit overwhelmed with getting the shoes on and getting my bike set, but a nice woman next to me was very helpful. Thank goodness.

There wasn't much of a warmup; the entire 45-minute class felt like a sprint to me. At one point, the instructor looked at me and said, "I DO NOT RELATE TO PEOPLE WHO DON'T SWEAT." She must have been looking at the girl behind me because there was no lack of sweat on this body—it was pouring down my face, stinging my eyes, drenching my T-shirt. Towards the end of class, we used 1 lb. weights to do arm strengthening moves as we cycled. It was not easy, but I felt so good when I finished. I'm definitely going back!

I didn't think anything could beat this workout, but I think this spinning class did. Are any of you fans of spinning? I wasn't really until today!
