Dudes who want to date themselves

I know plenty of guys who pretty much just want to date themselves. A girl who has an eclectic taste in music (read: no Top 40), would rather watch Dexter over Gossip Girl, actually enjoys Monday night football and has read every book by Malcolm Gladwell and Haruki Murakami, or whatever shit guys are reading these days. Ok, so these probably aren't the best examples ever, but you get my point. Some guys place SO much importance on things that don't really matter. Trust me, fellas, if a girl meets ALL of your frivolous criteria, she probably is a bitch or a psycho. Or a psycho-bitch.

Guys like this tend to be clueless about who they really are, so they cling to the things they THINK they know and value. I actually thought about this topic when I was watching 500 Days of Summer the other day. Joseph Gordon-Levitt's character is exactly the type of guy I'm speaking of. He falls in love with a prettier version of himself with boobs (small ones) and it all goes to hell. His little sister in the movie says something really awesome that supports everything I just said: "Just because she likes the same bizarro crap you do, doesn't mean she's your soulmate!" Amen, girlfriend.

If my boyfriend had this attitude, we most certainly never would have gotten together. I emailed him yesterday to ask him what things we DID have in common, and this is all he could come up with: Sleeping, movies, food. Ha!
