He was plant manager for 2 plants here in Jersey and another in North Carolina. He had over 200 people under him. At the age of 62 he had to basically hit restart. Between the soft job market and the age descrimination he faced he did everything from pumping gas, to running a car wash at a car dealership. Being in manufacturing in the USA myself, I hope to not get faced with the same end result. When possible, "buy American" guys. Its hard to do.

I don't feel like anything is too demeaning. I'll do anthing required. Just because I'm the plant Engineer doesn't mean I can't push a broom, it just means I'm wasting the company's money.G-Dubhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13487979817790103012noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6670679032484051596.post-74811652395285810992010-04-01T20:56:07.108-07:002010-04-01T20:56:07.108-07:00Take it. I have a redneck to prove it. There are sometimes things we do for our jobs (or for potential jobs) that ain't pretty.

Enjoy your part-time work.

SCSUnknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04261556610653423999noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6670679032484051596.post-7861781016210622572010-04-01T07:13:00.844-07:002010-04-01T07:13:00.844-07:00A girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do. ...A girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do. It's all about swallowing your pride to get ahead. For me, there is no task too menial when I think someone will take note that I will do what it takes without being a pain in the arse about it.

I recently posted end-of-rental-term notices on 172 lockers. For the bottom lockers I had to be down on my hands and knees in my suit and heels on a floor where I knew everyone. Yup. I am 29 and lost my job in Dec 2008. I didn't see it coming and it really hurt, especially because it was the 2nd time in my life that I had lost a job. I had been at this job for almost 3yrs. Unfortunately I live in Michigan and the economy was/is horrendous here. It's been a tough year, but your blog has really helped. Your post where you had a little bit of a meltdown, it was like you were taking the words out of my mouth. Keeping myself from feeling like a failure is a struggle most days. In regards to your post today, again, I completely relate because I have finally secured a full-time position that I will start next week. And you know what? It's entry-level and hourly. And that's okay. Why? Because of all the reasons you stated in your post.

Thank you so much for sharing your experiences. If you ever wonder if your blog has a purpose or is really helping people out in the world, know that it does. Atleast it does for me.

Take care!
nmnmhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03614824148312726217noreply@blogger.com
